DuProprio’s Online Messaging

Want to talk to potential buyers without leaving the DuProprio platform? Now you can! Just activate our Online Messaging system. This communication option has many advantages over the conventional approach using only email or the phone.
What’s Messaging?
Messaging is a contact option offered on our website and mobile app. It allows online discussion between buyers and sellers. In addition to written messages, messaging offers the ability to send voice messages, documents, images and videos. It also allows discussions related to a sale or purchase project to be centralized in one place.
If you activate alerts, you’ll receive a notification when you receive a new message or when a new conversation is started. These alerts can be an email and/or a push notification on your phone if you use the DuProprio app. This will make your communications with others smoother and instantaneous.

Activate (or deactivate) Messaging
| Did you subscribe to our services before the December 2023 launch of Online Messaging? You can go activate the option on your listing! |
If you want to activate Online Messaging, go to your listing on My DuProprio. In the contact info section, you can change your contact preferences and choose to activate or deactivate the use of Online Messaging to receive your messages.

If you deactivate Messaging, new people will not be able to contact you through this channel. Your existing Messaging conversations will still be accessible, however. Where necessary, advise the people you’ve been talking to of your new communication preferences.
Potential buyers can then contact you via email and/or phone using the contact info in your listing.
Unwanted solicitations in Messaging
Any solicitation messages received via Messaging, notably those from real estate brokers, are subject to Canada’s anti-spam legislation, and a complaint can be made about them to the authorities.
Are you receiving solicitation messages regarding the sale of your property? You can report it through the CRTC’s Spam Reporting Centre.
End a conversation permanently
If you no longer want to talk to a given person, you have the option of terminating the conversation. Note however that this cannot be undone. And, when you end a conversation, you lose access to the history of messages sent. Plus, you will no longer be able to talk to this person in Messaging from the property listing.
The person will also see a notice indicating that you have terminated the conversation.
FAQ
How do I manage the emails I receive relating to Messaging?
In your My DuProprio account, you can activate or deactivate whether you receive emails when a new person contacts you via Messaging or when you receive a new message. To prevent accidentally ignoring messages from potential buyers, we recommend you keep the email alerts on, unless you have activated notifications on your phone.
How do I activate instant (push) notifications on my phone?
First, the DuProprio app must be installed on your iOS or Android phone. Then, in your account settings, you can activate notifications under “Manage my alerts.”
Can I see if my messages have been read?
Yes! Two green checkmarks (✓✓) appear to the left of your sent message when it has been read by the recipient.
Other symbols are used in Messaging to show the status of your message. A single grey checkmark (✓) indicates that your message was sent. Two grey checkmarks (✓✓) indicate that your message was transmitted successfully.
How long are conversations kept in the messaging system?
In order to protect the confidentiality of your data, all messages exchanged in the messaging system have a maximum lifespan of three years. After this period, they will be deleted and it will no longer be possible to have access to them.
We therefore recommend that you make copies of the discussions you deem important in the context of your transaction in order to keep them in your files.
Note that if you make a request to delete your account or personal information, the messages exchanged in your conversation will remain accessible for a period of three years so that your interlocutors can consult them. However, your messaging account will be deleted and you will no longer have access to the messages exchanged in the system.
