Social media gives your listing more visibility, potentially attracting thousands of Web users thanks to re-shares. When used effectively, your Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts can let your network of contacts know that you’re selling your property. They can then promote it in their networks, and so on. 

The goal is simple: to let your friends know what steps you’re taking in selling your property. For instance, after you share your listing and some photos of the property for sale, you can post that you’re holding an open house or talk about the renovations or homestaging you’ve done. 

Don’t wait for your friends to take the initiative. Ask them to share your listing and posts. You’ll get better results by being proactive. 

Be creative
There are diverse ways of promoting your property on the various platforms: a direct link to your listing, a photo album, a video, a story, etc. Avoid duplicating posts and have fun with the different formats available. Being original, funny and friendly will attract more reactions like sharing and comments, which will increase your post’s visibility.


On Facebook
Facebook is a must, since it’s the most popular in terms of the number of active users it’s had over many years. Here’s the simplest way to start promoting your property sale.

Go to your DuProprio listing
1. Click on 'Share' located near your contact information.
2. Select Facebook.
3. Write a few words about your plans.
4. Ask your friends to share your post.

Don't have Facebook? You can ask a loved one to share it for you. In the same section , you can send your contacts the link to your listing by email.


On Instagram
Instagram is an app mainly for sharing photos and stories (stories are posts with a 24-hour lifespan). 

Prepare your post in a few steps:

1. Download photos of your property.
2. Go to the app.
3. Create a photo album (for your feed or story).
4. In a few words describe your selling plans and redirect people to your listing, for instance by giving your address.

5. Add hashtags and a location to your post.

NB : In 2017, Instagram became the property of Facebook. Since then, the two platforms share some functionalities, like the option to share stories on both accounts at once. Two birds with one stone! 


On Twitter
Twitter is a platform in which the news feed is ordered chronologically. 

Prepare your post in a few steps.
1. Go to the app.

2. Add the link in the “What’s happening?” space.
3. Before your link, describe your selling plans in a few words.

4. Add hashtags.


Using hashtags

Hashtags are especially popular on Twitter and Instagram. These are the words you see prefaced by a hash symbol (#). They let users find all the posts on a given theme. Using hashtags may get your post seen outside your circle of friends/followers and attract the attention of people interested in a given topic.

For example you could use #houseforsale #duproprio #montreal or use a more specific topic like #homestaging if you did a room in your home.

How do I download the photos taken by the DuProprio representative?

Go to the section My photos / Select section.

By clicking on the pencil icon of a photo, more options will be available to you. Simply click on the download icon, and the photo will appear in your computer’s Downloads folder. If you’re using a tablet or cellphone, the photo will be in your photo gallery.

You are authorized to use our photos on another site as long as you keep the DuProprio logo at the bottom right of the picture. Our photos cannot be used on the site of a real estate agent or agency.
